The province of South Carolina is one of the thirteen provinces that revolted against the British Rule in American Revolution. The state is named after king Charles II of England. Higher education in South Carolina has a long tradition. The state shows a rich and complex history of higher education. Although it appears disproportionate for a small state like South Carolina to hosts an educational system that is so very diverse and large, but education in South Carolina is a combination from large state-funded research universities to small colleges that cultivate a liberal arts, religious or military tradition. The College of Charleston or C of C is the 13th oldest institution of higher learning in United States.
