The city of Charlestown is located in the county of Charlestown. The city includes many important areas within its jurisdiction. It is the county seat as well as the largest city of Charlestown county. There are five important areas located in the proper city of Charlestown including the downtown peninsula, West Ashley, John Island, Daniel Island and the Cainhoy Peninsula. Originally the Charlestown County was called as Charles Towne it was found in the year 1670. The city adopted its modern name in the year 1783.
Charlestown also an important port and is the second most productive port in the world after Hong Kong. The city is also a famous tourist destination with many site attractions. Many tourists from different parts of world visit Charlestown to have a close look to this historic place.
