Abbeville: is a city in Abbeville county, South Carolina. It is also the county seat of Abbeville County. Acording to the census of 2000 there were 5,840 people, 2,396 households and 1,574 families residing in the city. Abbeville occupies a special position among the cities in South Carolina. It has a unique distinction for being simultaneously the birthplace and deathbed of the Confederacy. It is the center of a small urban cluster with a small population of about 6,038 according to the census of 2000.
